TIG Membership

Tighean Innse Gall AGM September 2024

Tighean Innse Gall is a registered society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.  Its Rules make provision for members to apply to join the Society, membership of TIG is open to people who:

  • are aged sixteen or more and
  • have an interest in TIG’s work.

In the event of TIG owning property, which is occupied by tenants, any tenant who is aged sixteen or more may apply to join.

Corporate membership is open to organisations which are based in the Outer Hebrides and which undertake activities that complement those of TIG.

Prospective members should normally be either:

  • Resident in the Outer Hebrides; or
  • Employed in the Outer Hebrides; or
  • Involved in or sympathetic to activities which are consistent with or support TIG’s Mission Statement and activities; or
  • A Corporate Body based in, or with substantial activity in the Outer Hebrides

People who are directly employed by TIG are not eligible to apply for membership.

Applying to Join TIG

Application should be made by submitting a completed application form to TIG’s head office in Stornoway (13-15 Francis Street, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis) or emailed to info@tighean.co.uk .  The application should be accompanied by payment of £1.

All applications will be considered by the Management Committee at the next meeting following receipt of the application.

Withdrawing from Membership

Any member may end their membership of TIG by giving one month’s notice in writing.

Membership may be ended by TIG, in accordance with Rule 16, provided that two thirds of those members who attend a specially arranged general meeting agree.  No such vote can take place unless a written complaint about the member’s conduct has been received and investigated by TIG and a report has been presented to the meeting that details the evidence available.

A member who has been expelled cannot be readmitted to membership of TIG at a later date.
