Tighean Innse Gall (TIG) is pleased to announce a successful funding bid. The new funding will come from the Comhairle’s Crown Estates Fund, which supports community projects across the Outer Hebrides.

The funding will enable TIG to employ an additional construction development officer who will project manage TIG’s latest housing developments in Uist and Lewis.

The project will focus on a range of different housing opportunities including serviced plots for sale, low-cost home ownership opportunities, mid-market rent and open market sale. Local people can find out more about the homes and enquire about the properties by participating in our community survey: https://forms.office.com/e/bgWJijhfRX  or by emailing lettings@tighean.co.uk.

A key element of the project is working in partnership with the community land sector, and TIG is particularly pleased that the project will focus on more rural communities – building new homes and refurbishing empty properties to bring them back into use. Other partners in the project include Storas Uibhist, who is supplying the land to enable the project, and The Paric Trust, who TIG will be working closely with to develop and let an empty property.

Donna Smith, CEO at TIG, said: “This vital funding will enable us to progress a number of projects that will benefit different communities across the Outer Hebrides. We are grateful to the Comhairle’s Crown Estate Fund for the revenue grant support, and for helping us to support our more rural areas.”

Cllr Donald Crichton, Chair of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Sustainable Development Committee, said: “In a challenging market TIG’s work to develop affordable housing options is hugely welcome. This funding will support their work in communities throughout the Outer Hebrides and provide further opportunities for people to live and work in the area.”

Darren Taylor, CEO at Storas Uibhist CEO said: “A lack of affordable housing is one of the most pressing problems affecting the community across South Uist, Benbecula and Eriskay and Stòras is committed to doing everything we can to address the problem.
“We are delighted that our partners at TIG have secured this funding and we look forward to seeing our plans for housing at Rubha Bhuailt and Huan move forward.”

Emma Mackenzie, Estate Manager at The Pairc Trust, said: “We are working with TIG to develop the Tigh Ceilidh in Gravir into a family home and bring an empty property back into use, providing affordable housing for the community. We are delighted that TIG have been successful with Comhairle’s Crown Estate Fund as this will ensure the success of our housing project.”
